Baptisms / Christenings

We are very pleased to baptise (christen) children who live in the parish or have a service of Thanksgiving.

Choosing Baptism or Thanksgiving

Baptism involves promises made by the child’s parents and godparents that involve declaring their own Christian faith and promising to pray for the child and enable them to grow in their faith. They are promises that involve a definite Christian commitment by those that make them, and it may be these are not appropriate for you or your godparents at this time.

If that is the case, there is an alternative service of Thanksgiving, whereby the child is named, prayed for and blessed, and has sponsors, but does not include the Baptismal promises and declarations of faith. Thanksgiving is often seen as a first step, with the possibility of baptism taking place some months or several years later, or alternatively leaving the child free to choose baptism if he or she wants later in their lives.

Older baptism candidates are also welcome, and we make special arrangements for their preparation.

Please contact the Rector if you would like to discuss this further, and we will be pleased to visit you and meet your family in preparation for a service of Baptism or Thanksgiving.
